Power Up for Justice Episode 1: Laytonville Rancheria
Our first episode of Power Up for Justice features Peggy Hoaglin from the northern California community of Laytonville in Mendocino County, where residents of the Cahto Tribe Rancheria and adjacent neighborhoods continue to suffer horrifying rates of serious illnesses and death that we believe is caused by the decades of pollution from the old county landfills built on a hill overlooking the small reservation and community. Toxic waste was illegally dumped and burned there for years.
This series is powered by the knowledge that the environmental justice movement, from its very beginnings, has a rich history of struggle and victories for health and justice. We believe that it is important to preserve and share this incredible history from the frontlines so that communities faced with pollution and injustice can know the history in their own and other communities, and make their own history! Know Your History, and Make Your Own!
