SI SE PUEDE ?✊??

On August 5 2019, Greenaction gathered in Gonzales for a Community Gathering! The gathering held speakers from the California Department of Pesticide Regulation, the County Agricultural Commission, and the Salinas Valley Environmental Justice Leadership Youth Academy. Community organizer Niria Alicia congratulated the final day of the Youth Leadership Academy through granting youth and board member Roberta Camacho with certificates. The certificates honor their skills as community organizers, environmental leaders, and human rights advocates. ??✨

The presenters informed the Gonzales community about the dangers of pesticide drift and what they can do to prevent these environmental and health issues. The Gonzales community then shared their experiences with health issues related pesticide drift and poisoning as well as raising their questions and concerns to the presenters. ??‍???‍???‍♀️

Since 2015, Greenaction began the Salinas Valley Summer Youth Environmental Justice Leadership Academy. We have been working extensively with youth from farmworker families to build leadership skills, educate, and empower them to mobilize their community to rise for health and environmental justice. ??This summer’s Youth Academy has been a great success with community organizer Niria Garcia and youth organizers such as Magaly, Ruben, and Pablo. These powerful youth have been taking direct action by educating themselves and mobilizing their community to learn about the harmful impacts of pesticide drift and poisoning. ??

Congratulations to our Salinas Valley Environmental Justice Leadership Youth Academy! Greenaction is so proud of all of the powerful and influential work you have all put in throughout this summer. ???‍♀️??✊?
